Braised Mushrooms

  • 4 oz  dried black mushrooms
  • 4 cups hot water
  • 2 Tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 Tbsp peanut oil

Braised mushrooms are a great addition to any meal, like chicken and rice or Asian noodle dishes.  If you're a mushroom lover, you'll definitely love these. 

 
  Step by Step Preparation  
 
  1. Soak mushrooms in hot water for 20 minutes.  Cut stems off and squeeze as much water as possible from mushrooms, saving the liquid. 
  2. To the saved liquid, add some water from where the mushrooms were soaked, making about 1 1/2 cups.  Add sugar, soy sauce and sesame oil.  Stir until sugar dissolves.
  3. Heat peanut oil in a small wok and fry mushrooms over high heat.  Stir and turn them until the undersides are browned.  Add liquid mixture, reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 30 minutes or until all the liquid is absorbed.  Stir occasionally towards the end.
  4. Serve whole or sliced.
